This week we’ll face the beast of all photography- Wedding Photography

Learn about the story behind this photo here:

Happy Valentine’s

In honor of Valentine’s Day last week, I’ll be posting two interviews this week with professional wedding photographers.

I reached out to Christina Richards, a wedding photographer who uses digital and film for her work.

If you need a wedding photographer, you can find her website by clicking here.

Christina Richards

Christina started photography in the dark room developing film when she was in college.

Freelance photography is a hard profession, but she continued to do freelance photography in New York and San Francisco.

She began her career as a wedding photographer after she married her husband, ironically.

Christina contacted Channing Johnson, a wedding photographer in Boston, to be the photographer for her wedding.

This experience is the foundation of their relationship, and Johnson would assist Christina in the beginning of her career as a wedding photographer.

The World Of

Wedding Photography

Let’s be real- Weddings are stressful.

A wedding is meant to be a harmonious ceremony of love, outlined with complete chaos.

After all, a wedding isn’t a real wedding until something goes wrong.

It’s Christina’s job to help the bride and groom forget how many times they had a panic attack that day. What better way to do this than through images? Here are a few film pictures:

Christina gives her clients the choice of digital and/or film photos.

Digital is always a safe avenue because of the reliability it offers. There are many technical mistakes that film can produce.

Digital Cameras are convenient and allow room for higher quantity of photos.

When Christina is using her film camera, the compositions must be more coordinated and intentional.

It helps to have a visual idea of the scene you want to capture.

Time is the ultimate factor for weddings, so it’s important to work efficiently. You can’t pump out these photos like a digital camera can.

However, these film photos have a higher quality compared to the digital photos.

They have character to them, which compliments the subjects of each photo well.

The result is unique, something that digital photos can’t quite replicate.

There is a balance between film and digital photos that Christina maintains with her clients. The bride wants the same thing as Christina- really good pictures, and a lot of them.

This is easily accomplished with a digital camera and Christina’s expertise.

But her film camera is used to show her clients what they want, before they even realize it.

Her film photos raise the quality of composition and lighting because of the time and consideration that film requires.

I’d like to conclude with a classic wedding horror story that Christina shared during our interview.
