Film & Wedding Photographer
Film Techniques and Client Base:
Let’s continue our dive into the world of wedding photography, but from a different perspective.
I feel lucky to have interviewed Ashley Plante.
She takes an unconventional approach to wedding photography, but the results are amazing.
She has a deep passion for photography, clearly destined for this profession.

This image is a double exposure, which is a common term in the world of film photography.
A double exposure is a technique that layers two different exposures on a single image, combining two photographs into one. In film photography, it is commonly used to produce evocative results.
Creativity
Ashley is from Amesbury, Massachusetts. She’s been doing film photography her entire life.
She was raised in a family that valued and encouraged creativity.
Her brother was in a band and she traveled with him as a photographer to document his journey.
This was when Ashley was in high school.
Ashely currently does street photography, freelance and wedding photography. You can find her website by clicking here.
I’ll shut up and let the pictures speak for themselves.

“I was raised in a household where media literacy was the nightly dinner topic and a production company was founded in the garage.
As our family business grew, I was fortunate to grow with it. ” -Ashley

Wedding Photography
Ashley never sought out to be a wedding photographer.
A friend reached out to her to take photos of their wedding, even though she had no experience with weddings.
I think this blind approach is essential to a creative process, which is why her work is so unique.
This began her career. Her photos would lead to many more clients through word-of-mouth publicity.
Being in the advertising industry, I know how hard earned media is to accomplish. This is an unspoken testimony to the quality of Ashley’s incredible work.
This introduction to wedding photography also allowed her to be intentional with digital photography too, which she incorporates with all clients who want both digital and film photos.

The photo above is another example of a film double exposure.
Passion for photography
Ashley views the camera and accessories as tools for storytelling.
We had a long conversation about The Decisive Moment, which is a type of philosophy for photographers. It has a great impact on the purpose of photography and the creative process.
I’d love to do an article on this concept, so leave a comment below if you’d like to learn more about it.
Ashley’s passion of film photography bleeds into the product that clients are looking for. She uses elements like composition to portray a story, or a specific feeling to the viewer.
Here’s a picture Ashley took of a couple with their boat for their engagement photoshoot:

More photos
Ashley’s unconventional approach gives clients abstract, sharp and delicate images.
But how does someone like Ashley become a successful and professional artist ?
It’s all in the creative process. Maybe this clip will offer some key points:
Here’s a photo from one of Ashley’s favorite moments-

This photo is not edited- it’s film.
Ashley was at the beach with her film camera. She decided to take a double exposure of the sand and the sky above her. The plane wing was captured so seamlessly because of the longer exposure of the sky, and the short exposure of the sand.
It created this beautiful image, which most would assume it’s the work of photoshop.
If you look closely at the clouds in the upper-middle section, you can see them bleed onto the other exposure.
I’d like to conclude a final video clip.
I hope this article was as engaging as my interview with Ashley. Please share or leave a comment!
I’d love to hear what you think about my current blog style, so any criticism is appreciated.
As always, thanks for reading
