Featuring Architect Wayne Coco & Projects // 4×5 Color Film Portra 400

Film Project 001

Artist Statement

Large-format film cameras were invented and used for architectural projects in the late 19th century.

Wayne Coco, my grandfather, is still an active architect. He owns his own business located in Simmesport, Louisiana. This project pictures him with 15 of his chosen completed projects across Louisiana.

He has no photographic record of his finished projects, so these images are made to serve that purpose. I wanted to include variety by having him in his office and different workspaces.

Through this project, I aim to display the work of Wayne Coco while also portraying some of his personality and perspective. My grandfather is inspired by architecture in New Orleans, but also historic buildings all across the world.

He has always created structures with a progressional modern style while still respecting the culture that thrives in these towns across Louisiana.

The conservative traditions of his birthplace have never limited him, yet he always treated his colleagues with respect and kindness. His peers always revered him because of this.

Some, including me, consider him a Louisiana Legend Architect. My Papa and I traveled to cities across Louisiana in southern, northern and western regions. These projects all assisted communities in big or small ways, from local libraries to university buildings. T
his photography, along with his works, will stand the test of time.
