Discography – Sawyer Coco

Check out some of my own film photography here.

Film Projects by Sawyer Coco

Introduction

I wanted to give you all a little insight into my personal life and projects I’ve done with film photography.

I’ve been working with film since my junior year of college when I declared photography as my minor.

These projects are in reverse-chronological order; I want to show my most recent work then move towards the start of my photography experience.

Consider giving feedback in the comments below- I’d love to know your favorite! Thanks for reading

Architecture of Wayne Coco

I’ve worked harder on this project than any other, having an entire semester to work on it.

Wayne Coco is the owner of Coco & Company. He’s an architect that has designed buildings throughout Louisiana. He’s also my grandfather.

From October to December of 2022, I traveled with him around Louisiana and photographed him with his favorite buildings he designed.

He doesn’t have a website or any pictures of the buildings, besides the plans and layout of each building.

I thought this would be a great record of his professional accomplishments. See the result of this project by watching the video below.

My grandpa and I traveled over 50 hours to each location for this project.

This project was the first time I’ve used a Large Format Film Camera, which looks like this:

Large Format Film Camera

In class, we learned that this old camera was originally used for architecture photography because this camera would keep the size and lines of a building proportional. If you take a picture of a building with a digital camera, you might notice that the dimensions of it change based on your perspective. This isn’t the case with a large format camera.

I knew I wanted to do this project when I learned it was a great camera for architecture.

It’s also the first time I’ve worked with color film. The film is 4″x5″ 400 Portra, which is much larger than your average film size.

Visualizing Music

This is a project I completed in the Summer of 2022.

It’s the first time we were given 5 weeks to work on a photography project, which is a rather short amount of time for a full project in the photography world.

I challenged myself to utilize photography as a tool for visual story telling.

It’s separated into 3 parts; each picture fits in the narrative story to each song.

Here are some short videos of the finish project:

This video contains visuals to accompany the narrative of Mac Miller’s ‘Wings

This provides visuals to Childish Gambino’s ‘The Night Me and Your Momma Met‘, which is a love story about the night two people found love.

This video follows the narrative of a man who leaves his worldly possessions behind through Frank Ocean’s beautiful voice in ‘Swim Good

I’d love to hear what you think about this project because it is one I am most proud of. Leave a comment if you’d like šŸ™‚

Familiar Tragedy

This project is the most personal to me.

I’ll leave this project up to your interpretation rather than ramble on about it.

I hope you enjoyed taking a look into my past projects, let me know if you’d like to see more of this content.

This was such an interesting post to read! I’m a big fan of all 3 of the artists that served as inspiration for your video project and really enjoyed your take on the narratives of those songs. The final product came out so cool!
